Salt Tectonics
Many salt-rich sedimentary basins underwent basement-involved and detached deformation, producing complex structures and complicating the geodynamic history of the basin. In many salt basins, rock salt is interbedded with other evaporites, clastic sedimentary rocks, or even igneous rocks.
In my research, I integrate field observation (e.g., outcrop, satellite image, well, 2D & 3D seismic-reflection data) with scaled experimental models to understand how salt impurities influence the style of deformation within salt-rich basins.
